Introduction

Hiya, I’m Andy. A digital product designer based in the SF Bay Area specializing in mobile app design.

Lately, I’ve been working in Fintech, at places like NerdWallet and JPMorgan Chase.

I love this space because people have an intricate relationship with finance and it’s a privilege to support them on their journey.

BEHAVIORAL SUMMARY

Working in a digital space is wonderful for scalability and impact, it costs little in material, no ink or paper even, to provide an experience to someone. Excitingly, there’s no physical constraints besides the device itself. What we lose though is the tactility and texture of an analog experience for which there’s no real great solution.

So what to do? I think one way is to fill our lives with tactile experiences from the real world. That includes interacting and understanding people, their needs, and their stories. Bring all that into the digital world and you can build richness and emotion through the design. It should build and be consistent at every level, from the architecture and journey to the details of animations and components, this is the work of a design story.

How I like to gather inspiration is usually through transit, food, and photography. Cars, trains, planes, on the way to find something good to eat. Then, looking at a scene and trying to figure out why it feels the way it does, try to evaluate it with a filmmaker’s eye to capture the emotion and sense of a place. We all feel it, I believe, then it’s a wonderful challenge to distill, communicate, and share it.
